Shotokan Karate originates from Okinawa and Japan. Gichin Funakoshi was the master of Shotokan Karate. The word Karate means empty hand. Kara meaning empty and Te meaning hand. It is an art where students use their arms and legs to be able to defend themselves by blocking and striking.
Shotokan Karate training is generally split into three parts, Kihon (basics), Kata (a set of moves), and Kumite (light contact sparring).
